Born in Pingli, Liao Ganwu joined the Communist Party of China in 1922. He served as a Party representative in the "Iron Armored Train Brigade"founded by Sun Yat-sen and as Director of the Political Department of the Fourth Army of the National Revolutionary Army. He was Marshal He Long’s party introducer, a key organizer of the Nanchang Uprising (August 1st Uprising) , and a prominent revolutionary figure.
